It’s official! We have a tween in the house! Madison has hit double digits! 10! How is she 10?
Madison wanted a small party this year with only a handful of friends. She wanted to go to Benefit Cosmetics in town and get makeup done and then wanted to go out to a nice dinner. I waited too long to make reservations and was finding it hard to find a place in town to accommodate our group. We decided a “fancy” dinner at home followed by a girly movie would be the next best thing.
First, the guests met us at Benefit Cosmetics to get a makeover and makeup application tips from the makeup artists. They had a blast choosing colors and getting made up!
After their makeovers we shuttled the girls to “Casa Gold” for dinner. Entering double digits called for a celebration full of all the glitzy and girly details that preteen girls love. To add a little bit of custom detailing, I purchased this fashion inspired party collection from Anders Ruff. I hung the pennant banner across the window as the backdrop. I wanted the girls to feel like they were dining in style so I set up a glamorous table, complete with a black sequin tablecloth and a black and white striped table runner. I added mason jars filled with fresh flowers from Whole Foods and spray painted one of my double-sided pedestal frames gold. I placed the printable I had customized with Madison’s characteristics in the frame and used it as the centerpiece. While I wanted it to look fancy, I still wanted to clean up easily so I used paper goods where possible. Each place setting had a gold paper charger under a black and white polka dot paper plate, a fuchsia cloth napkin, a gold fork and a plastic champagne flute. Each place setting included a gift box that I had spray painted gold and accessorized with a party label and thank you tag. They also served as the place cards for the table. Each box held a lip gloss, blush, eyeshadow, a lipstick pen, and a sparkly notepad for the girls to take home.
Once all of her guests founds their seats, we thanked them for coming and told them the specials for the evening, as if in a fancy restaurant. They all raised a glass and toasted the birthday girl- with pink lemonade of course! For dinner, I ordered take out from Madison’s favorite restaurant, Bar Taco. We had chicken and fish tacos, cheese quesadillas, guacamole and chips, and fruit skewers.
After dinner and while I cleaned up, the girls showed off their glamorous makeovers in front of the photo booth wall! To create the backdrop for the Photo Booth, I hung a gold fringe curtain found at Party City from ceiling to floor. Then I taped number 10 gold foil balloons on top. The fashionistas had so much fun being silly with all of the photo booth props I set out.
After all of the photo booth fun, the girls were ready for some treats! One of my favorite parts of planning these parties is setting up the dessert table. I kept this one simple with only store bought treats. My tabletop was glammed up with a gorgeous gold sequin tablecloth topped with a fushia table runner. The front of the table was dressed up with a black, white, gold, and pink tissue tassel garland. The movie we were going to watch was up on the television and I paused it on the title to serve as the backdrop to the table. I tried my hand at decorating some Marquis letters to match the party by covering them with duct tape and scrapbook paper. This was a project that was much harder than it seemed and the lights didn’t work after! Womp, womp! Oh well, it still looked cute on the shelf above the table. Madison loves Dunkin’ Donuts and asked for a doughnut cake for her birthday. The doughnuts were displayed on a cake stand to resemble a cake and served as the focal point of the table. Store bought cupcakes embellished with printable cupcake toppers and pink chevron cupcake wrappers flanked the doughnut cake. I found gold glitter popcorn boxes and filled them with popcorn for the girls to enjoy during the movie.
After singing Happy Birthday to the fashionista, the girls enjoyed dessert and then settled in and found a comfy spot on the couch to watch the movie, The New Adventures in Babysitting, which had just premiered on Disney Channel the night before. Besides popcorn, I had fashionista inspired candy for the girls to enjoy during the movie, including candy necklaces, ring pops, and chocolate bars wrapped and strung with gold string to resemble a clutch. So cute!
The movie was great! It brought lots of giggles. Madison’s Beauty Bash was a success. She had a blast with her friends and got exactly what she wanted-some girly girl time with her good friends. What could be better than that?
My beautiful Madison, I hope you enjoyed your 1oth birthday Beauty Bash! You are beautiful inside and out! I love you!
